How does the media survive and hold governments to account in a post-truth world?

What is the future for the media and accountability in the post-truth world? With the emergence of fake news – the deliberate and politically motivated act of forgery – holding government to account has become even more difficult. How can the media speak truth to power when, as the referendum showed, some organisations regard themselves as part of the power structure? Will companies like Facebook continue to erode traditional media and the integrity of news, or can the digital giants help provide a reliable account of the world?
