Andrew Samuels is an influential commentator on political and social themes from the standpoint of ‘therapy thinking’. He has worked with politicians, political organisations, activist groups and members of the public in Europe, US, Brazil, Israel, Japan, Russia and South Africa as a political and organisational consultant. Clinically, he has evolved a blend of Jungian and post-Jungian, relational psychoanalytic, and humanistic approaches.
He is professor of analytical psychology at the University of Essex and chair of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. His most recent book was Politics on the Couch: Citizenship and the Internal Life.
