Sashy Nathan is a civil liberties lawyer who started his career defending activists and politically sensitive criminal cases at Bindmans LLP. He is currently the Director of Advocacy at 89up, Europe’s first impact agency for civil society issues and organisations, which “campaigns for great causes, builds technology and tackles complex problems” – taking its name from the year the Berlin Wall came down and the worldwide web went up. Sashy has led 89up’s campaign to protect human rights from the process of Brexit, chiefly by lobbying the EU not to sign an FTA with the UK without an express guarantee that the UK remains a signatory to the ECHR. He has also founded a not-for-profit cooperative law firm, Commons Law, committed to social impact in the criminal justice system.
